Language Resourced Provision

Gledhow is a language resourced school and has eight places available to children who are identified by Children’s Services and the Speech and Language Therapy Service as having language disorders which meet a specific set of criteria.

The Specialist Provision Placement Panel is responsible for allocating language resource places.These cannot just be named on Education and Health Care Plans/statements.

We have a resident Speech and Language Therapist on site who gives specialist support to these children.

Resourced children are fully included with their peers in mainstream classes.

Waves of Provision

Provision for Pupils with SEN is made in Waves of Provision.

Each wave has a specified access point and a range of activities and support for children. The support in each wave is designed to meet the children's needs and move them towards their expected attainment targets.

Special Needs Provision

The school works with Children’s Services and in line with legal requirements to ensure that all children with SEN are identified and receive appropriate support. Identified children will be placed on the SEN Register.

• Special Needs Support

Should a child be making little or no progress after receiving initial support in the classroom or after being given access to intervention programmes, OR if they are working at a level substantially below that expected of children of a similar age, or have significant emotional or behavioural difficulties; then the school will place them on the Special Educational Needs Support Register.

• Statutory Assessment Procedure (EHC Plan)

If a child demonstrates significant cause for concern, the school may request (after consultation with parents) an Education and Health Care Plan Assessment. If this assessment is successful, an EHC Plan will be allocated to the pupil with set outcomes which are reviewed annually. This document is legal and binding and will support the child through their academic career into early adulthood.

• ‘Talking Maths’ – To improve understanding of mathematical vocabulary

• ‘Quest’ – To improve Literacy Skills

Wave 3

Wave 3 – Additional highly personalised interventions 1:1.

• Fischer Family Trust (FFT) – To improve reading/writing skills
