Government PE Funding

Physical activity and sport particularly are central to our educational ethos at Gledhow. Children should be fit, active and competitive. We will play anybody, at any sport, anywhere! School teams are very successful and many of our children go on to play with teams and clubs out of school. The most successful represent Leeds and compete at a national level.

The government PE funding has been welcomed greatly and has allowed us to expand our provision by employing coaches in 'new sports' to complete units of work with children and staff, by providing transport for competitions when our 'parent and staff, transport army' have been unavailable and to provide additional equipment and resources for all children.

Sports' Coaching

To expand and improve the range and quality of our teaching and coaching  we have been able to employ coaches to deliver units of work within the PE Curriculum.

The additional provision has provided high quality dance lessons for children acrss the school, leading to final complete dance performances.

Profile Sports Academy provided fourteen weeks of Netball coaching which gave a renewed focus on this very athletic sport.

'SK8' worked with both Year 5 classes and developed a super level of skills and tricks with the children whilst also focusing on safety and local skateparks that could be used.

Joe Jeynes brought in specialist tennis coaching for four weeks in the summer term, as our young Wimbledon hopefuls took their first steps in developing their technique.

How sports premium funding has made a difference to PE and sport participation and attainment of identified pupils/groups ?

The funding of the sports coaches and professional dance teacher has enabled children to access sports professionals from their areas of expertise. It has also given the children a wider variety of skills as well as exit routes to club to extend their experience out of school.

The funding of transport has meant we can get more children to and from competitions/tournaments – see attached sheet.

The membership of Active Schools has meant we have been able do a wider variety of competitions.

Sports' Resources

Though we have always invested heavily in our PE provision, the additional PE Funding has allowed us to ensure that more sports and activities are fully resourced.

We have been able to purchase goalposts for our competitive representative football matches and our thriving lunchtime leagues. Lunchtime games equipment was purchased to allow for a wider range of outdoor games and PE equipment for lessons and Sports Day was also enhanced. This is also used in our many after school clubs.

We were also able to purchase full team kits for football and athletics, bibs for the Netball team and a set of hoodies which are used across our sports, greatly improving our team spirits and camaraderie. Specialist SEN play items have been purchased and playground markings were added to our outdoor areas to enable more effective team games provision to be made for children.

Additional Expenditure

The PE funding has also been used to hire facilities such as our local swimming pool to organise competive events for our local family of schools.

The extra monies have enabled transport to events to be purchased on the few occasions when we have not had sufficient volunteers to take pupils to competitions or matches.
