ICT and Computing

Our Computing studies develop the skills children require to use computers and other hardware and software to process information and images; present work and write their own programs. We learn about the subject and how to use it, as a tool, across all the work that we do at school and home. Fundamental to this work is a core understanding of the safe use and practices that need to be understood by all because of the potential dangers that exist in the on-line world. Children are taught what is and is not acceptable and what to do if they are not happy or comfortable with any online content.

We have separated our study into three strands covering Text, Graphics and Data, Digital Media and Computing. These are all studied each year with the children being challenged at an ever increasing level as they are introduced to age appropriate high level units. Text, Graphics and Data

This strand teaches children how to use software as a powerful tool to present their work in electronic or digital form. They learn to manipulate text, graphics and data to a high standard applying the skills to their other units of work.

Through this study our children become proficient at applying ICT and learn what is becoming an absolutely essential life skill.

Digital Media

Children are taught to manipulate images, create slideshows and become film producers. The software we use allows the development of advanced skills that allow children to create their own quality productions using audio and video.

Not only useful as a presentation tool this study allows children to consider how the same skill sets are the building blocks in many further education and career opportunities.

Computing

The final strand of our study teaches the children to debug programs as an essential first step to understanding how programs control everything electronic.

The units studied provide a platform for children to write their own programs and take the first steps into developing their own basic software. With the way the world is developing it is essential that our children have the opportunity to understand how programming is created.
