Welcome to Year 6!

Hello Year 6,

Welcome officially to Year 6!

We're in the process of updating the website with relevant information for the new academic Year 2020-21.

Class Routines

Children need to wear their PE Kit on Tuesdays and Thursdays - anyone unwell for a lesson must bring a note.

PE may change due to other events happening in school but we would still like all children to come to school in their PE kit on these days.

Each week two stars of the week and one star writer are chosen from each class will be selected to receive an award in our "Celebration Assembly". These are awarded for outstanding contributions throughout the week.

Collection

Lilac are collected via the Lidgett Lane gate at 3.00

Amethyst are collected via the Lidgett Lane gate at 3.10.

Please rememer to socially distance and wear a mask whilst queuing to collect children.

Curriculum Enrichment

Each term we try to help 'bring the curriculum to life' with an extra activity whether it be a trip, visit or visitor.

We are working hard to consider how we can provide enrichment activities during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Planned trips and visits would normally be activities such as:

Tropical World

Year 6 residential to Waddow Hall

British Red Cross Workshop

Ripon 'Crime & Punishment' Outreach project

Ripon Prison Museum

Air Quality Performance Project

Social Media PCSO

Maths Competition

Marcus Waite (criminal lawyer)

Alright Charlie Workshop

St Johns Ambulance Workshop

Whitby

Junior Warrior

Year 6 Fun Day (Go Ape)

Homework

Year 6 children are expected to study independently but may need to be helped with this process and should still be encouraged and supported to read every night. Children are expected to read at least three times a week (outside of school hours) for a minimum of 10 minutes.

This term, the children will receive a spelling and maths task every week.

Homework will be set on a Friday.  On the following Friday the children will have a quiz related to their homework.

Children will earn Class Dojos for portfolio work uploaded.

Spelling

Children will practise a spelling rule from Year 5 and 6.

Children can also practise this rule using a spelling menu which will be available on the school website.

Children can use https://spellingframe.co.uk/spelling-rule to practise their spellings.

Maths
Children will practise their times tables using Timestable Rockstars, new passwords will be shared with children.

Children will also have an additional maths task which is linked to the key instant recall facts for their year group.

Please see the new Rainbow Reading chart (on Class Dojo or the English page of the website' to record and date when children have read.

Year 6 pupils may also receive an additional homework such as: Maths tasks and either spelling / GPS/ Reading task.

Home Learning Activities

These activities are activities we uploaded from March-July 2020, however you may find some of them useful still so we have kept them on the website for you:
